Bridgestone Athletics Facility

Design and construction of a IAAF compliant athletics facility to house multiple athletics clubs within the northern suburbs.

Design and construction of the new Athletics facility to IAAF regulations as part of City of Salisbury’s $5.3M redevelopment of Bridgestone Reserve at Salisbury.

An alternate design proposal was offered at time of tender that realised significant Whole of Life benefits, together with an overall aesthetic improvement on the concept design.

The new facility spanned some 650m2 and comprised:

  • blockwork walls and
  • structural ‘in-plane’ structural steelwork to achieve the thin skillion roof profile
  • large undercover viewing area
  • open function area
  • commercial kitchen and bar
  • athletes change rooms and
  • facilities
  • offices and medical rooms
  • judges rooms
  • separate services room
  • disability access requirements, including DA ramp

A separate storage facility was also constructed on the western side of the track.

Extensive services and service connection works were required to be undertaken, with the facility founded on nonengineered fill. This required the design and installation of a piled foundation and suspended underfloor hydraulic systems (sewer).
