Coastal Walkway Bridges

Enhancing your walk and run with breathtaking views!

Scope

BluBuilt Constructions was engaged on an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) basis to deliver the project. Aimed at improving accessibility, safety, and aesthetic appeal for both residents and visitors. This project showcases BluBuilt Constructions’ ability to manage complex construction challenges while ensuring safety, environmental protection, and effective communication with local stakeholders.

  • Earthworks.
  • Demolition of existing boardwalk, cliff face, and roads/kerbing.
  • Construction of foundations for bridge abutments, portals and landings, boardwalk, and retaining walls.
  • Installation of two suspension bridges, four elevated boardwalks with lookout landings, and remediation of existing boardwalk and  batters.
  • Landscaping adjacent to the path with jute mesh, coir logs, hydroseeding, mulch, and nearly 6000 plants.
  • Safety and environmental protection, including stainless-steel wire fencing, culverts, side entry pits, rock dams, and silt management installations.

Challenges

  1. Worker Access: Staging the demolition of the existing boardwalks and building temporary scaffolding enabled suitable access for workers. Temporary scaffolding was modified through each stage (excavation, concrete construction, anchor drilling, bridge  installation) to ensure continuous, safe access.
  2. Removing Spoil for Abutment Excavations: A combination of temporary conveyor systems and ‘bulker bag’ lifts via cranes was utilized to efficiently remove spoil.
  3. Bridge Build: The work process was revised to create alternative temporary tracks and laydown areas, enabling lifts to be undertaken by crane only, thus lowering risk and minimising disruption.
