Combination of a full refurbishment and a new build of a performing arts theatre across 2 separable portions

Scope

Mt Barker High School Redevelopment Project involved the refurbishment of an existing building and construction of a new performing arts space that:

  • provided in total 5 shared learning areas and 9 general learning areas
  • offered versatile performance building with multiple uses
  • provided laboratories for students
  • provided new offices and admin area for teachers

Works included:

  • Demolition of internal services and walls in existing building across 1350m2
  • Bulk earthworks
  • New walls, linings and ceiling
  • Aluminium windows and doors
  • Structural Steelwork
  • Blockwork walls
  • Roofing & Cladding
  • Plasterboard walls and ceilings

Challenges

  1. Working within an operable school across multiple areas, ensuring the safety of students and teachers
  2. Aligning obtrusive construction activities with school holidays to minimise risk and maximise productivity
  3. Wet weather synonymous with the Mt Barker region
