BluBuilt was engaged to undertake a renovation of the student support services space in the Central Library Building. The scope included internal refurbishment of the existing library zone, and construction of new offices, meeting rooms, breakout spaces, concierge desks, kitchen area, as well as specialist meeting and conference equipment to enhance the user experience.
The project was centered around the key flexible use space for the staff and students, which incorporated multiple operable walls, curved glazing panels and feature finishes and lighting throughout. A high level of detail was required to ensure all curved glass panels and operable walls aligned with the correct angles, noting the irregular shape of the space.
Due to the long lead time and manufacturing timelines of the operable walls and curved glazing, key templates were incorporated into the project delivery to ensure elements of work could occur without the direct need for finished products onsite. Feature ceiling panels, feature linear light fittings, curved partitions and glazing and operable walls all needed to be templated onsite to maintain accuracy with the design intent.
The high level of detail within the joinery throughout required detailed workshop drawings and modifications to ensure the design intent was feasible with the actual day-to-day use. With the remainder of the library across the floor area and levels above remaining operational at all times, careful planning and scheduling was needed to maintain noise restrictions and minimise shutdowns to ensure minimal disruption to the operational capability of the library areas.
