Our History

BluBuilt was formed in June 2010 by Owen Richards and Michael Hitch, with seven staff in a small office on George Street, Thebarton. Having an existing working relationship, Owen and Michael identified the opportunity to use their complementary traits and wealth of experience delivering complex projects to create something unique; a business that could offer both building and civil capabilities under one roof.

With the intent to build a ‘one stop shop’ for clients with capabilities across building and civil works, we won our first project in November 2011; the Linear Park Path Upgrade at Walkerville. The River Torrens then flooded in December and flooded our site, providing a challenging first project for the business.

Over the next three years, we developed and certified our management systems and gained prequalification with SA Water and SAPN. Our team built a great relationship with Guidera O’Connor, leading to numerous building and civil opportunities in the water treatment industry, including the North South Interconnection System Pipeline, Waterproofing the West, and Bolivar WWTP Upgrade projects.

While initially we delivered 90% civil projects, over the past decade this has gradually moved closer to 50/50. Today, we deliver a balanced mix of civil and building works across South Australia as we continue to build our capabilities.

In 2018, we constructed our new Largs North office and warehouse where we are now headquartered with a staff of 65 and growing.

While we grow, we remain committed to the culture that we have built on from our humble beginnings, and building strong, lasting relationships across the local industry.
