The redevelopment involved transformation of Chapel Street from an active roadway into a new public plaza. The works included seating, lighting, public art, and more trees to create a new and welcoming open space for the community and visitors. On the opposite side of Jetty Road, the upgrade of Hindmarsh Lane strengthened pedestrian connections within the precinct. This scope comprised new public toilets, a parent room, and accessible toilets and facilities for people with profound disabilities and their carers within a newly created public space.

The project was undertaken in a busy shopping precinct that is highly trafficked, which posed complexities for the project delivery team. Stakeholder engagement was paramount to the project’s success, as well as delivering the works within the confines of a tight site footprint.
