Salisbury Indoor Cricket Facility

Scope

The Indoor Cricket Training Facility Project was co-funded between City of Salisbury and the State Government and was designed to comply with the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) and Cricket Australia Guidelines.

The project involved the design, construction and commissioning of a 39m long x 17.5m wide training facility,  comprising 4 indoor training nets, storage facilities complete with appropriate lighting and evaporative cooling for year-round occupation.

Works included:

  • Detailed geotechnical investigation of site and design reinforced concrete slab and footings
  • Site clearing and tree / vegetation removal in strict accordance with the approved Arborist Report
  • Design and construct  steel framed, lightweight clad building structure
  • Detailed cut/fill earthworks to the site to achieve new design floor levels
  • Supply and installation of new SACA approved synthetic turf, netting and lighting.

Challenges

  1. Remediation of saturated and soft existing subgrade materials whilst mitigating program impacts. Remediation works involved the removal of over 900t of clean fill across the site, replaced with a combination geotextile, bridging ballast and select fill.
  2. A strict 3mm tolerance for finished concrete across the 680m2 concrete slab forming the practice pitches, together with a 0mm tolerance at the setdown below the bowling crease.
  3. Short project timeframe with long lead time elements required a well planned and executed procurement strategy at the front-end of the project ensuring potential delays were mitigated.
